U16 Hawks Match Report – Round 8
Today we played East Ringwood at home who were under manned and with a game plan to reduce the impact on the score board as much as possible. Our movement of the ball in the first quarter was of a high standard, using each other to move the ball with precision out of the centre into the forward line and finishing off well. East Ringwood started to drop players back with little impact and leaving their forward line under manned. We finished off the quarter well with a score line of 6 – 5 = 41 to no score. In the second quarter our forward structure fell down with everyone wanting a piece of the action and not sticking to the game plan that we set-up at the start of the game. Even though the score board showed that we scored just as well as the first quarter we could of done alot better by allowing the team to kick the goals and not the individual. At half time we went in the a 82 point lead, doubling our first term score. At half time we spoke about getting back on track and working together like we did in the first quarter. In the third we started as we did in the first winning all around the ground smashing East in the stoppages and giving us first use of the ball. By this time East had most of their players in our forward line trying to plug holes to no avail. We flicked the ball around, switching play in both the back & forward lines to give ourselves the best scoring opportunity. We increased our lead to 128 points and leaving East scoreless up to 3/4 time. We had the wind in the last term & I asked the guys to finish off the game running and give ourselves as many scoring opportunities as possible. We continued getting first use of the ball from all the stoppages with giving and protecting at a all time high. We scored the first goal within 16 seconds and the first 4 in 4 minutes with East not even getting a touch. Our team finished of the way we asked with East not even entering there forward 50 in the last quarter. This was probably one of our biggest wins which shows that this team can hold it’s structure and play as a team with minimal pressure. It wasn’t the result that impressed Geoff, Dave & I, it was the journey and how we worked together to control the play and think about what we needed to do to get the right result. What really stood out was in a 32 goal win the highest goal kicker was only 4 goals and we had 15 players kicking goals in a great team effort.
Well Done Guys, Keep up the good work.
Congratulations to both Tom Anderson & Callan Burns on playing 100 games and I hope they play many more in what will be 2 fantastic football careers.
